CAGES (from the SHELTER series). By Wibke Rahn. Installation 2014. The French ethnologist Marc Auge describes non-places as transitory places of function, emptied of meaning. They are signs of a collective loss of identity, „places of placelessness“. The disquiet facing these non-places, the feeling of homelessness, is the main concern in the pieces of the SHELTER series.

The Burka. Sculpture, 2010. by Laure Boulay. Words are not enough, they do not possess the elasticity necessary to express emotions. They lock their meaning into a bodice. Deformed by tears, they become kneaded. They turn, they amputate. One day, while Boulay’s words wanted to slip out of her hands, she was able to show the pain, the fear that sits in her body. She started in 2005 with a lump of earth, beneath the light of Rome. Her hands have a feeling of love, of eternity, in one of her sculptures, which are seldom quiet. And since then she has never stopped, one work forms the other they come without pausing for breath.
